About Scholarships
The Kaneta Foundation provides scholarships to Christian students in Hawaii.
In the last 7 years we have provided 507 scholarships amounting to over $1,500,000. We have primarily supported scholarships for a 4-year college education. $3,000 is awarded each year or a total of $12,000 in 4 years. We also provide for 2-year vocational programs at Community Colleges. $1500 is awarded each year or a total of $3,000 in 2 years. To date 62 students have received $12,000 for completing 4 years of post-secondary education.
In 2011, there were 108 Kaneta Foundation scholarship recipients:
- 41 Freshmen
- 22 Sophomores
- 17 Juniors
- 28 Seniors
These students hail from 43 high schools throughout Hawaii, attending 64 colleges and universities and are majoring in 44 different disciplines. 34% of the scholarships were awarded to students from the neighbor islands. 5% of the students were home schooled. 29% of the students will be attending post-secondary programs in Hawaii.
Renewal scholarships are awarded on the basis of:
- Being a full time student and carrying at least 12 credits per semester, or quarterly equivalent
- Maintenance of a 3.0 cumulative GPA;
- A letter outlining your life as a college student. Let us know of your accomplishments and challenges.
Community College Focus
The Kaneta Foundation is changing our Scholarship program to focus on those attending Community Colleges in Hawaii. We recognize that a community college education can sometimes mean the difference between a minimum wage job and a job that pays a living wage. We want to support those students who have the desire and drive for an education but who may also be facing other challenges in their lives.
New scholarship applicants must:
- Be a student planning on attending a community college within the University of Hawaii system
- Full-time enrollment
- Minimum GPA of 2.0 or GED
- Be a member in good standing at any Christian church in Hawaii
- One letter of recommendation from a pastor or ministry leader
Scholarships are administered by the Hawai‘i Community Foundation.
