The Springs of Living Water serves the families and people in the Waipahu community through the provision of quality child care and other services. With the certification of the new commercial kitchen, Springs of Living Water intends to encourage food business entrepreneurship by making the kitchen available for rental. Springs of Living Water also plans to provide training and employment for the unemployed or those who need work experience.
Springs of Living Water has a strong track record in its success in establishing and operating a licensed preschool that opens at 6 a.m. to accommodate parents’ working hours. Springs of Living Water has also successfully constructed a commercial kitchen and obtained the necessary Department of Health license.
In the past, the Springs of Living Water has partnered with the Waipahu Adult School and others to provide a job enhancement program that includes computer training, English as a Second Language classes and adult and family literacy programs.
With the new commercial kitchen, Springs of Living Water plans to partner with the Small Business Administration, which will provide training to food entrepreneurs. In addition, the organization will rent the kitchen facilities to small businesses.
Springs of Living Water also plans to provide snacks and lunches to the preschool students and staff, which will generate additional preschool revenue. They hope to use this activity to present employment training through the Job Enhancement Program.
The preschool is providing quality child care for working parents and has plans to add another classroom. The commercial kitchen has the potential to support preschool operations and supplement tuition income. The kitchen will also help community entrepreneurs to earn supplemental income and to grow a business.
